چکیده

Quantitative ultrasound has shown a significant promise in the assessment of bone characteristics recent reports. However, our understanding wave interaction with tissues is still far from complete since propagation ultrasonic waves bones very challenging topic due to their multilayer nature. The aim current study develop theoretical model for guided bone-mimicking plate coupled two soft-tissue layers. Here, modeled as an isotropic solid layer while soft are fluid Based on boundary conditions set three-layered structure, characteristic equation obtained which results dispersion curves phase and group velocities. New expressions free propagating trilayered introduced. amplitudes modes generated by time-harmonic loads applied theoretically computed reciprocity consideration. As example calculation, normalized lowest presented. equations discussed this could be, general, useful further applications area quantitative ultrasound.

Predicting bone strength with ultrasonic guided waves

Recent bone quantitative ultrasound approaches exploit the multimode waveguide response of long bones for assessing properties such as cortical thickness and stiffness. Clinical applications remain, however, challenging, as the impact of soft tissue on guided waves characteristics is not fully understood yet. In particular, it must be clarified whether soft tissue must be incorporated in wavegu...

Monitoring of Soft Deposition Layers in Liquid-Filled Tubes with Guided Acoustic Waves Excited by Clamp-on Transducers

The monitoring of liquid-filled tubes with respect to the formation of soft deposition layers such as biofilms on the inner walls calls for non-invasive and long-term stable sensors, which can be attached to existing pipe structures. For this task a method is developed, which uses an ultrasonic clamp-on device. This method is based on the impact of such deposition layers on the propagation of c...

Deep soft-tissue leiomyoma of the forearm mimicking a primary bone tumor of the ulna

Leiomyomas of the soft tissues are rare in general, and extremely uncommon in the forearm. In general, leiomyomas are benign soft-tissue tumors that occur where smooth muscles are present. We present a case of soft-tissue leiomyoma of the forearm eroding the midshaft of the ulna, with emphasis on radiological diagnosis and histopathological correlation.

Model-based in Situ Parameter Estimation of Ultrasonic Guided Waves in an Isotropic Plate

Most ultrasonic systems employing guided waves for flaw detection require information such as dispersion curves, transducer locations, and expected propagation loss. Degraded system performance may result if assumed parameter values do not accurately reflect the actual environment. By characterizing the propagating environment in situ at the time of test, potentially erroneous a priori estimate...

Soft tissue sarcoma mimicking eosinophilic leukemia.

Blood eosinophilia is diagnosed by an absolute eosinophil count that exceeds 0.5 × 109/L.1 Hypereosinophilia is classified as either primary, due to clonal expansion of eosinophils through acquisition of a somatic mutation (eg, FIP1L1-PDGFRA),1 or secondary, as seen in response to exogenous type 2 cytokines (eg, IL-3, IL-5, and GMCSF) secreted by various cells (eg, T-lymphocytes).2-4 Secondary ...
